A GAME OF FOOTBALL
It was a nice and warm day. A team of little animals and a team of big animals decided to play a game of football.
During the first half of the game, the big animals were winning. They were stronger and faster. But during the second half, a centipede joined the game and the little animals started  to catch up. By the end of the second half, the centipede scored so many goals that the little animals won the game.
When the game was over, the chipmunk came to the centipede and asked, “Where were you during the first half?”
“I was putting my shoes on,” the answer was.
Vocabulary:

THE CLEVER BIRD
A little bird plays under a tree. A big grey cat sees it. “I must have that bird for my dinner”, the cat says. But the bird is very clever. It sees the grey cat and flies up into the tree. “Good morning”, says the cat, “Good news!” “What news?” asks the bird. “Very good news! All animals are now good friends. Come down from the tree and let us play together”, says the cat. But the bird is very clever. “ Oh , yes! You are my friend. You like me and I like you. But from the trees I see many dogs and they are running here!” The cat wants to run away. “Don’t run away! The dogs know that all animals are friends”, says the bird. “They are village dogs, not town dogs. They do not know the news”, says the cat and runs away.

Valentine’S DAY
      Valentine’s Day is on February 14. It is a time for love. People send cards called valentines, give each other roses, chocolates or perfume on this day. At school, children decorate their classrooms with red balloons and give valentines to their friends.
      Some people think Valentine’s Day began in Roman times thousands of years ago. The Romans told a story about Cupid. He looked like a baby. He shot arrows at people to make them fall in love.
      In England people thought birds began mating on February 14. They thought it was a good day for people to choose a mate too.
      Every year Americans send millions and millions of valentines with Cupid, roses, birds or hearts on them. People really love this holiday.

A GINGERBREAD MAN
      Many years ago there lived an old woman. One day she cooked a gingerbread man. He was very happy and went for a walk. On the way he met a cow and she gave him some milk. He thanked her and they went to the forest together.
       In the forest they met a dog and played with him. Then they saw a cat. The cat wanted to play with them too. And they played games till evening. Then the gingerbread man  took his new friends home and the old woman was very happy. Now she had a cow, a dog and a cat.
